Moritz Schafft

Japan, 2025

Hi, I'm Moritz — born and raised in Kassel, now based in Hamburg, Germany. When I'm not working on projects, you'll usually find me outside with a cold brew (irrespective of the weather) or meeting up with friends — not too rarely hundreds or thousands of kilometres from Hamburg. I grew up in Germany and spent time abroad early on — a school exchange in Australia and seven months of work and travel across New Zealand and Australia. German is my mother tongue and my English is near-native.

Most recently, I worked at KPMG AG WPG in Hamburg as an Assistant Manager. My specialties were with non-financial reports — both from a consulting and audit perspective. During my time I advised and audited more than 15 companies across many industries. This includes writing reports, preparing audits, sparring, and full-scope assurance engagements. My focus was on the EU-Taxonomy and everything related to the CSRD. Beyond sustainability reporting, I expanded into governance (writing policies), internal controls (supporting an internal audit and taking the site lead), and contributed to KPMG's collaboration with the EU on different framework contracts — including co-managing the proposal for a renewal worth hundreds of millions of EUR, coordinating work across all 27 EU member firms.

Since leaving KPMG I've enjoyed occasional travels through Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, France, Spain, Singapore, Indonesia, the US, Turkey, and Finland. When I'm not travelling, I keep up with the newest developments in AI, tech, manufacturing, politics, and ESG regulations.

Most of my time goes into testing new AI features and building apps — leveraging tools like Cursor, Antigravity, and Claude Code. Besides that, I try to learn more about physics and the fundamentals of our world. And then of course, I look for interesting opportunities — ideally at the intersection of sustainability and technology. I'm curious about new ideas and approaches, and I want to help make a positive impact in a dynamic environment — whether at an established player, a startup, or anything in between.
